CLEVELAND -- A man was arrested in connection with the rape in a Cleveland neighborhood earlier this month.
The suspect was identified by the Cleveland Division of Police as James W. Daniel III of West 104th Street.
The arrest was made on West 87th and Lake.
A news conference was held by the Cleveland Division of Police on Thursday afternoon.
A mission group from Cincinnati, working at a house across the street, saw the entire arrest.
Members of the mission group said they were shocked, but after learning what the suspect was wanted for, they said they were glad he was caught.
The assault happened on Sept. 2 around 5:41 a.m. as a woman was engaged in her morning exercise routine.
Surveillance video showed a man run up from behind and attack the woman.
Police said he forced her behind a building, showed her a gun and raped her.
Lakewood detectives were investigating a similar incident that occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 31, on Warren Road between Franklin and Madison.
A woman returning home from work was robbed and then sexually assaulted by a man armed with a pistol.
During Thursday news conference, Cleveland police say they believe Daniel is a suspect in both attacks.
According to Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams, a DNA test linked Daniel to the Cleveland assault. Authorities are waiting for test results on the Lakewood incident before they can charge him in that attack.
