Police: Drunken Dad Crashed with Kid in Car

AKRON, Ohio — An Akron man is facing several charges after crashing his vehicle into a tree and leading police on a chase.

According to the Akron Police Department, 28-year-old Jermaine Cody Sr., hit a tree at Copley Road and Mercer Avenue. As officers arrived at the scene, Cody drove off, running several red lights and traveling the wrong way on a one way street. He hit another vehicle before a police cruiser was able to end the chase.

A child found in the back seat of Cody’s vehicle was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital. The child’s condition has not been released.

Police say Cody admitted to drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana before driving. He is charged with willful flee, resisting arrest, child endangering, driving under the influence and obstruction official business.
