BRIMFIELD- A local police department is making it their mission this summer to write tons of tickets, but only to a certain group of people.

Brimfield Police Chief David Oliver recently posted on their internationally popular Facebook page that starting Monday, June 9, they will be writing tickets to keep people safe during the summer months.

‘Operation Safe Summer’ officially kicks off Monday.

Chief Oliver said he has ordered his officers to stop anyone appearing to be 15 years of age or under who is riding a bicycle with a helmet on.

Those individuals who are stopped will be issued a ticket for a free ice cream cone from Frank’s Drive-in.

This is not the first year for the program. Last year, the Brimfield Police Department gave away nearly 200 free ice cream treats.
