LODI, Ohio– A police chief credits FOX 8 News with alerting law enforcement that a series of terrifying robberies are being committed by the same suspect.

In one incident, the robber had a knife and was wearing a skeleton mask. He terrorized a clerk during a hold-up at the Circle K store in Lodi on Tuesday; he cleaned out the cash register and as he was leaving, he dropped a 5-dollar bill that he picked up before he ran off.

FOX 8 shared surveillance video of one of the armed robberies with Lodi Police Chief Keith Keough. The video showed a suspect wearing a skull mask threatening a clerk with a knife at the Days Inn in Middleburg Heights; he cleaned out the cash register and took off. “I didn’t know how prolific he was until I talked to you earlier today and since that phone call I’ve made contact with one of the police agencies and the way he described what happened, the description, it was totally consistent with our robbery,” Chief Keough said.

Investigators believe the same robber hit at least five other businesses near I-71, and they said his desperate need for cash speaks volumes about the kind of person they’re looking for. “Just about everything nowadays has something to do with drug addiction and I would not be surprised if that was the case here.”
