SANDUSKY, Ohio — The uncle accused of shooting his 7-year-old nephew accidentally is behind bars after being arraigned this morning.

Police Chief John Orzech confirms to Fox 8 that Ervin Clinton Jr.  was arrested around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The 7-year-old boy was shot Sunday afternoon in the upstairs of a duplex on Center Street in Sandusky.

The boy told officers his uncle accidentally shot him, according to Det. Ken Nixon.

Earlier in the investigation, police were trying to determine if the boy shot himself.

The bullet stuck the child in the nose and exited near his ear. Nixon said the 7-year-old is recovering.

“It’s a miracle,” said Nixon. “He is very lucky. He is doing wonderfully.”

The child remains at the hospital but is expected to make a full recovery.

Clinton, Jr. faces felony child endangering. His bond was set at $20,000. But, the judge said he can’t get out because the Probation Department Court has a hold on him.
