PORTAGE COUNTY, Ohio – The Ohio State Highway Patrol in Portage County has confirmed to Fox 8 that the pilot of a plane has died after it crashed into the backyard of a home in Portage County.
The patrol says that a plane from a local airport crashed into the backyard of a home on Nicodemus Road in Shalersville Township. It clipped the back deck of the home.
The pilot was the only person in the plane at the time of the crash.
No one was in the home at the time of the crash. When the family arrived back home, they discovered the plane and alerted authorities.
The plane is a single-engine plane.
The FAA is on the scene along with local fire, police and sheriff officials. They are expected to be there for a number of hours.
