Marcy Kaptur's bid for re-election just got a boost, courtesy of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The newspaper has formally endorsed the congresswoman in the race for the newly redrawn 9th District.

Of course, she's running in the Democratic primary against fellow incumbent Dennis Kucinich, whose 10th District is being eliminated.

In its editorial, the Plain Dealer says Kucinich's focus has "wandered from northeast Ohio, at a time when this area desperately needs a powerful and effective advocate on Capitol Hill." The Plain Dealer goes on to say that Kaptur can fill that role.

"Was I surprised? I think I was breathless," Kaptur told Fox 8 News. "Because they're placing faith in our record and our ability to get real results," she added.

Kaptur told us just a short time ago that she plans to be competitive for votes in Cuyahoga County.

The newly redrawn district stretches along Lake Erie from Toledo, which Kaptur now represents, east into portions of Cuyahoga County, which Kucinich now represents.

Fox 8 News attempted to reach Congressman Kucinich's office for reaction to the Plain Dealer endorsement, but were unsuccessful.
