Phone Scam Targeting Medina Co. Residents

MEDINA TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Police are warning residents about a phone scam in Medina Township.

Several residents have received calls from people claiming to be working for Windows Support. The callers told residents there was a problem with their computer’s security and offered to fix the computer remotely for a small fee.

Police warn residents to not provide any personal information to unfamiliar callers.

Microsoft released a statement saying, “neither Microsoft nor our partners make unsolicited phone calls to charge you for computer security or software fixes.”

If you already gave out your information, change the passwords on all of your e-mail, credit card and financial accounts and contact local authorities.
