STATE COLLEGE – Penn State football plans to honor former coach Joe Paterno before the September 17 game against Temple.
The information was included in their promotional schedule for the season.
The tribute is going to honor the 50th anniversary of Paterno’s first game as head coach of the Nittany Lions.
Only a short description was given about the event.
“Commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Coach Joe Paterno – Activities during the game will take place to commemorate Joe Paterno’s first game as the head football coach at Penn State — September 17, 1966.”
Paterno coached at Penn State from 1966 until 2011.
Paterno was fired shortly after the sex abuse scandal involving assistant coach Jerry Sandusky became public.
Paterno said before his death in 2012 that the first inkling he had that Sandusky might be abusing children was in 2001.
