CLEVELAND — A teenage pedestrian was hospitalized Friday after being struck by a sport utility vehicle on Cleveland’s east side, Fox 8 News reports.

A spokesperson for the Cleveland Police Department tells Fox 8 News that the collision occurred at approximately 7 a.m. near the intersection of East 79th Street and Woodland Avenue.

Emergency medical services were called to the scene. An EMS supervisor says that the injured 18-year-old was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he continues to receive treatment. No official information has been shared regarding his condition.

A preliminary CPD investigation revealed that the teen was crossing the street in the crosswalk when a blue Chevrolet Blazer heading southbound on East 79th ran a red light and struck him.

The 54-year-old SUV operator did not have a valid driver’s license. He was arrested and issued several citations.
