MARBLEHEAD, Ohio– A couple who were detained after being accused of making a threat against the President of the United States while sitting in a diner are not strangers to the spotlight.

Robert Dale Pierce, 62, and his wife Catharine Pierce, 55, both of Boulder, Colo., were not arrested and are not facing any charges after being detained by police and the Secret Service on Saturday, Marblehead police said.

However, police said that the pair, especially Catharine Pierce, has made national news before. She made headlines, and punch lines in April, 2010 after neighbors complained to the city of Boulder that she would garden topless, wearing only a g-string, according to several articles in the Boulder Daily Camera.

Marblehead police said she has ties to the town.

Her near-naked antics in the garden, and accompanying photos, spread like ivy to newsrooms across the nation.

Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly bashed her in April, 2010, during his segment “Patriots and Pinheads.”

He categorized Catharine Pierce as the latter.

“In Boulder, Colorado, a woman likes to garden with no clothes on. You can finish the joke here. But it is no joke for people who don't want to see it,” O’Reilly said as photos of a near-nude Catherine in the garden flashed on the screen.

As for Saturday’s incident, the couple was in Avery’s Café on Main St. in Marblehead when staff said they heard Robert make a threat against President Obama, according to the police report.

Staff members told police they felt the pair were ‘very unstable’ and feared the pair was going to follow through with the threats, the report said.

The two said they were heading to Washington, D.C. to make some things straight, the report stated.

Witnesses told police that Robert Pierce said he was going to “kill Obama and take him down,” according to the police report.

Police said, in the report, as they were running the couple’s license plates, a Border Patrol agent drove by and stopped to help.

The United States Secret Service was then notified. They said they wanted to speak with the couple.

Police handcuffed the couple.

During a search of the truck, police said they found a .22 caliber rifle with the barrel detached. They also found a small bag full of .22 and .38 caliber rounds.

Six pill bottles of oxycodone with a prescription were also allegedly found.

Police said Robert Pierce kept stating he was the illegitimate son of the late President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Agents from the United States Secret Service met them at the border patrol headquarters to interview the pair.

The Secret Service declined to comment.

Marblehead police said they pair were released and no charges will be filed.
