Bond set at $5 million for parents charged in 5-year-old girl’s death

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- The parents of Ashley Zhao, 5, who are charged in connection with her death, appeared in Massillon Municipal Court Wednesday morning for an arraignment.

Ashley Zhao was reported missing on Monday by her parents, Ming Ming Chen and Liang Zhao, who told police she was last seen in the back room of a restaurant.

Bond was set for both parents at $5 million. The judge said the reason for the high bond was so the suspects couldn't leave this jurisdiction.

Tuesday evening, the child's body was found inside the restaurant "deceased and concealed."

promo308375379Jackson Township Police report that the 5-year-old's mother, Ming Ming Chen struck the child's head "several times with her right fist." Those injuries resulted in Ashley's death.

Ming Ming Chen was arrested and charged with murder and felonious assault. Ashley's father was also arrested and charged with complicity to murder and complicity  to commit felonious assault.
