OLD BROOKLYN, Ohio — Diamond #4 at Loew Park now has a new name. On Saturday, the baseball field was dedicated to TJ Taylor, a little league coach who was known and loved by many.

“I met TJ probably 14 years ago. I was coaching his sister-in-law and his daughter was in t-ball. It was a good time. He was a really good guy. Spent as much time here as anybody,” said Michael Burmeister.

TJ passed away on Christmas Day last year after battling esophageal cancer. He was only 35.

Burmeister said it was a devastating loss, but he takes comfort in knowing the coach’s legacy will live on at the park.

“That’s just who TJ was. He just cared about little league baseball. His children all played in it. His youngest son today plays for the Buckeyes which was TJ favorite team of all time — then of course the Indians,” he said.

TJ’s family attended the dedication ceremony. His wife, Brandy, was too distraught to talk, so their friend, Ron Rush spoke for her. He said it’s been an emotional day.

“The family is going through a rough time trying to let him go, but in spirit, we know he’s going to be here, so it’s a great thing,” said Rush.
