COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Goddard's Law has passed and will be official after Governor Kasich signs it.
Goddard's Law, or House Bill 60, will make it a fifth-degree felony to knowingly cause serious physical harm to a companion animal. That includes depriving a pet of food, water or shelter, or inflicting long-term pain.
Named for our own Dick Goddard and his effort to protect pets, the bill is sponsored by Democrat Bill Patmon and Republican David Hall.
The Ohio House of Representatives passed House Bill 60 awhile back and it was passed in the Senate on Wednesday.
It was sent back to the House since a couple of new amendments were added, so it needed a vote of concurrence before it was official.
