Ohio man jumps over courthouse banister after sentencing

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio – A court proceeding took a tragic turn in Jefferson County, Ohio on Friday after a man convicted of attempted murder took his own life.

According to WTOV, Jason Bickiewicz, 42, was sentenced to 13 years in prison for attempted murder and felony assault.

A local deputy was escorting Bickiewicz out of the courtroom when he made a run for a banister.

He threw himself over the banister, falling nearly 100 feet.

He was pronounced dead shortly after.

“I don’t think that anybody thought that this was going to happen today. Sometimes if we are aware something has happened in the past, or there have been those types of threats, then we are looking for that, we’re going to be taking different action,” Prosecutor Jane Hanlin said.
