CONTINENTAL, OH – When a grandmother receives a call from her grandson while she’s at work, and the grandson says he needs some help, most people would assume that this is not, in any way, a good thing.

But when Cole Dotson, of Continental, Ohio, called his grandma, who works at one of the schools there, it was for assistance in keeping our nation’s flag from hitting the ground.

Cole’s mom, Rhonda, posted this picture to her Facebook page, explaining that as Cole was walking in front of the school, he noticed that the American flag had fallen to the ground. Cole learned in scouting that the flag should never touch the ground, and so he stood there holding it and called grandma, inside the school.

And he stayed there, holding Old Glory, until extra hands arrived to get the flag flying again.

The post has been shared hundreds of times, much to Cole’s amazement. On his Facebook page, he talked about how thrilled he was about the patriotic support:

Thank you all for the support! I didn’t intend to get recognized for what I did. But I am sure glad to see the support and respect for the flag. I love this flag and this country. God bless America.

Way to go, Cole!
