LORAIN, Ohio — School officials in Lorain are hoping to soon solve the issue of an unexplained odor that’s caused their elementary school to close.
According to a release from Lorain City Schools, Admiral King Elementary School was closed several weeks ago after a smell resembling natural gas was reported in the building.
Students were relocated to other buildings while officials worked to determine the cause.
According to a release from Lorain City Schools, this week a site print was located that designates the possible location of two old gas wells on the property. Digging will commence on the two locations to find and properly cap the wells, according to the release.
“We are hopeful this will solve the issue, and we can safely return to the school,” according to the release.
In the meantime, students continue to attend Washington, Morrison and Garfield.
“At this time we believe we should have a clearer picture of the situation next week,” the release states. “Thank your for your
patience and consideration as we work through this situation.”
