GREEN, Ohio – A preliminary report from the Summit County Medical Examiner’s office reveals new details about what investigators say happened in a motel room before the death of a local 16-year-old and what authorities found after they got there.
Summit County authorities were summoned to a Super 8 Motel just before 7 p.m. on Wednesday, the caller telling them she found her son, Andrew Frye of Akron, unresponsive.
The preliminary report says Heather Frye, 31, and a friend went to the motel with the teenager because he wanted to go swimming.
But investigators revealed in the report that while they were there another person was sent out to buy heroin, which Heather, her friend, and Andrew all used before his death.
The report reveals that Andrew has a previous history with alcohol and drug abuse.
It also says the teenager went to the bathroom of the motel room to use the heroin because his mother objected to him using a syringe in her presence.
According to the medical examiner’s report, investigators found drug paraphernalia and syringes at the scene.
The incident would not be the first time authorities in Summit County encountered Heather Frye with drugs or drug paraphernalia.
Court records reveal the latest case was on March 29, less than two weeks ago, when Akron Police stopped Frye, who was driving with a suspended license.
According to the report a search “incident to the arrest found a glass meth pipe inside Heather’s purse, a second glass meth pipe in the center console and burnt aluminum foil in the glove box.”
As of late Thursday the Summit County Sheriff’s Office had not made any arrests or charged anyone with a crime related to the teenager’s death.
