PORT CLINTON, Ohio — A standard harbor patrol turned into an animal rescue for two officers in Port Clinton over the weekend.
While they were entering the Portage River from Brands Boat Works Marina Sunday afternoon, one of the officers spotted a baby deer in the water with its head stuck between roots on a tree.
The officers were able to position the boat’s bow against the bank of the river, according to police reports. One of the officers was then able to grab a hold of the tree and hold the boat into place.
The other officer jumped onto the bank, and was able to reach down and free the deer’s head from the roots.
The officers then placed the deer on dry land.
