BARBERTON, Ohio — A man was charged with aggravated murder after investigators found him in a home with the body of his mother who had been deceased for an “extended period of time,” the Barberton Police Department said.
Officers made a welfare check Wednesday on Maureen Petrie, 67, on 23rd Street NW in Barberton after her family members had not had contact with her in about six months.
When no one answered the door, officers went inside where they discovered Petrie’s body.
Michael Petrie, Maureen Petrie’s 32-year-old son, was also in the house.
The Barberton Police Department said he “made statements that implicated himself in the death of his mother.”
He was booked into Barberton City Jail and will be arraigned in Barberton Municipal Court on Thursday afternoon.
