TARRANT, AL — A police officer’s act of kindness is going viral.

According to WIAT, Helen Johnson was caught steeling eggs for her family over the weekend. She went into a Dollar General store with $1.25 in her pocket for food after her grandchildren went two days without eating. She had hoped to buy a carton of eggs, but was 50 cents short.

Instead of arresting her, Officer William Stacy told her to wait in the parking lot and went in to purchase her a dozen eggs.

Tarrant police say people from all over the country have been calling to either donate to Johnson directly, or to the fire department’s annual toy and food drive.
