A Portland, Oregon woman has a unique pet project. She says no airlines will let her bring her pet hedgehog on board.

Zoe Herman booked a flight to visit family, but her hedgehog named Heloise won’t be able to join her.

“They all said they were a danger of chewing out of their cages, which if you know anything about hedgehogs, they can’t do that,” Herman told KATU. They don’t have teeth that chew. They just kind of tear apart meat, that’s it.”

Herman started a petition on Change.org to allow hedgehogs in the cabin, along with dogs and cats.

“Through some desperate inquiries, I have found that many airlines have false information about hedgehogs. The first inaccuracy being that they classify hedgehogs as ‘rodents’, which they are not,” Herman wrote on the petition’s page.

She said hedgehogs are virtually hypo-allergenic and do not make noise, aside from an occasional sneeze.

Herman said Delta agreed to allow the critter on the plane, but Heloise would have to stay in the cargo hold. That won’t work for Herman, who said hedgehogs can die if not kept in a temperature-stable environment.
