SOLON, Ohio — An off-duty Solon police officer has been placed on administrative leave after being accused of assaulting a woman at a bowling alley.

According to a release from the Solon Police Department, it happened at just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday at Solon Freeway Lanes, 33185 Bainbridge Road.

The female called police, saying that the man grabbed her by the neck and pushed her out of the way, cursing at her. She told police the man was an off-duty officer and that he was in the bathroom.

When police arrived, they did not find the suspect. He was later identified and contacted.

Police say he has been placed on administrative leave, and the investigation into the allegations has been turned over to the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Christopher Viland said in a statement:

“There is a presumption of innocence that protects our officer as the facts of this matter are resolved; simultaneously to provide the most objective level of service to our victim, we are asking for independent investigation. Once a final determination on the case is reached, we will proceed quickly and appropriately.”
