NEW YORK – In a heartbreaking photo posted by Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, you see one dog comforting his friend, who is also in a lot of pain.

The dog on the right is Simon, and he is recovering from mange.

The dog on the table is Sammie. He was shot, dragged by a car and spray painted.

Both were rescued from South Carolina, but hadn’t met until this photo.

Sammie is now doing a little better after undergoing a few surgeries on his legs, but his injuries will have to be treated one day at a time. For now, he cannot leave his cage.

The vet believes Sammie was shot in the head with a .22 caliber bullet and that wound is now healing.
