NWS confirms two EF-1 tornadoes in Middlefield on Thursday

MIDDLEFIELD, Ohio -- The National Weather Service said two EF-1 tornadoes touched down in Middlefield on Thursday.

Storms blew through the area prompting a tornado warning for many NE Ohio cities at just after 2 p.m.

The first tornado, with maximum wind speed of 95 mph, happened at 2:23 p.m. It was observed near Durkee Road along SR 528 ending near the intersection of SR 528 and SR 87. Its path was 25 yards wide.

About eight minutes later, a second tornado touched down near Nauvoo Road and Hayes Road, the NWS said. It was similar is size and speed, and dissipated 3 miles northwest of Farmington.

The Geauga County Sheriff's Office tweeted that wires are down and a pole was snapped on Nauvoo Road in Middlefield Township.

Wires were also down on Wisner Road and Mitchells Mill Road in Chardon Township.
