CLEVELAND- The FOX 8 I-TEAM has obtained RTA video from inside Tower City the day last month when crowds scrambled for cover following a shooting downtown after the Cavs championship victory rally.
A 13-year-old girl was shot in both legs on the street. And gunfire kicked off a stampede outside and inside Tower City. The I-TEAM obtained security video from inside at the turnstiles leading to the Tower City rapid stop. The video shows crowds nervously running one way while police scrambled the other. Then 6 minutes later the crowd scrambled back the way it came, and police hurried the opposite way. One officer had a long gun at his shoulder as if ready to fire.
Police said that day no shots were fired in Tower City, but again and again, people came out and told FOX 8 they had heard gunfire inside.
Plus, the I-TEAM recently reported, hours after the incident, police found two guns in a hallway in Tower City. So the video above led us to investigate again.
But police still say no shots were fired inside, and no one was chased inside. RTA says no shots were fired. And Tower City also has said no shots were fired inside, and safety is a priority.
Nonetheless, some folks there at the time won’t be convinced the only shots fired were outside.
Cell phone video also shows people crawling under tables at the casino as officers rushed in and searched.
A 15-year-old boy has been charged with firing shots in the crowd downtown, but he hasn’t been tied to the shooting of the girl.
We checked on that case, and we asked if there was anything new on the investigation into the guns found. A spokesperson in the chief’s office had no updates.
