AKRON, Ohio– The LeBron James Family Foundation unveiled new features at the I PROMISE School in Akron on Wednesday.
Last summer, the school opened its doors to Akron Public School children in third and fourth grade who are at risk of falling behind. This year, it added another grade and now serves 343 students, while providing services to their families.
Additions include a state-of-the-art broadcast center and the family resource wing, which has a classroom for parents to earn their GEDs and a full laundry facility.
At the event, James was joined by his St. Vincent-St. Mary High School teammates, known as the Fab Five, and their coach Dru Joyce.
“This is a basketball court and we see basketball hoops, but it teaches you more than basketball. To be able to create a brotherhood or sisterhood, to be able to create things that will last forever,” James said. “We created a friendship over 25 years ago and we’re strong.”
The group played a little ball with students, who all wore shirts with the “We Are Family” motto.
