CLEVELAND, Ohio — Ordering a snow plow just got a whole lot easier thanks to a new smart phone app called “Plowz”.

It’s already available in nine cities and is now adding the Cleveland/Akron area to its list.

“The ability to be able to tap a few buttons on your iPhone or Android device and order a plow, it had never been done before,” said creator Wills Mahoney, who is based in New York.

He said they’ve made a process that can sometimes be difficult and frustrating, more efficient.

“All the plow providers, we track their GPSes in real-time, so we know where they are,” he said. “So let’s say you order a plow, the request goes out to the driver and the drivers all have an opportunity to accept the job, but only the closest will get that job.”

“Plowz” is free to download and is easy to use. All you have to do is sign up and enter information about your driveway. After that, you make a request for a plow, then pay.

Price varies per customer.

“What’s really nice about it, too, is you actually get a picture of your completed driveway within the app when the job is done,” said Mahoney.

He said they thoroughly screen all the snow plow companies they hire, so customers know they’ll do a good job.

Locals seem to like the idea behind the app and think it will do well here.

“I think it’s an awesome app. I mean that way you can decide if you want to use it that day. You don’t have to pay in advance. You can see how winter comes, and go from there,” said Justin Hall from Lyndhurst.

His wife, Kate, agreed.

“It’s really convenient as far as I’m concerned. I think it’s a great idea,” she said.
