COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The state is trying to make it easier for Ohioans to register as organ donors using a new mobile app.
The application developed by the Ohio Department of Public Safety lets people sign up by swiping their driver’s licenses on certain mobile tablets used by the state’s organ recovery agencies.
That automatically fills out relevant information for registration. Users then authenticate their identities, specify any restrictions on potential organ donations, and securely send the registration to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles via an Internet connection.
The state says it’s a faster, easier and more secure registration method than the existing process of completing or mailing a paper form. Ohioan also can register online.
The state says Ohio is the second state to allow for the license-swipe registration method, joining Arizona.
