CLEVELAND – People in a Cleveland neighborhood gathered Friday night to remember a young girl who disappeared from the neighborhood eighteen years ago.
The remains of Christina Adkins were found earlier this month. She was 18 years old when she disappeared and five months pregnant.
“She was a loving child. she would give the shirt off her back. She was joyful. She was the light of my life, of everyone’s life,” said family friend, Teresa Cartwright.
Felix DeJesus also attended the vigil. His daughter, Gina, escaped in May after being held captive by Ariel Castro for ten years. DeJesus was there to show his support.
A childhood friend of Christina, Desiree Flores, said, “She is always going to be missed, but never forgotten. You are in heaven watching over us and I just want to say I love you and I know you are watching over me too.”
Elias Acevedo was charged with killing Adkins and another woman whose remains were also found. He is a suspect in several other crimes involving women.
