Pelosi: House is drafting articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WJW) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says the House is drafting articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump. “If we allow a president to be above the law, we do so surely at the peril of our republic,” she said at a press conference Thursday morning. “The facts are uncontested: The president abused his power.”
“Today I am asking our chairman to proceed with articles of impeachment,” Pelosi stated. “The President leaves us no choice but to act because he is trying to corrupt once again the election for his own benefit.” The House Judiciary Committee held its first public hearing in the impeachment probe Wednesday. Three constitutional scholars told lawmakers the president committed impeachable offenses. A fourth witness disagreed. On Wednesday, Pelosi met behind closed doors with her Democratic caucus and asked whether they were ”ready.” The answer was a resounding yes, according to those in the room. Thursday morning around 8 a.m., President Trump tweeted: “…if you are going to impeach me, do it now, fast, so we can have a fair trial in the Senate, and so that our Country can get back to business…” The Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman  Ronna McDaniel released the following statement on Nancy Pelosi’s abuse of power:

“The Founders began the Constitution with ‘We the People’ for a reason,” said RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel. “Pelosi wants to negate the votes of 63 million Americans, all while denying President Trump due process. It is the ultimate abuse of power, and all the more reason why Republicans must take back the House and re-elect President Trump in 2020.”
