Mother’s boyfriend arrested in toddler death investigation in Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Ohio-- Police arrested the boyfriend of the mother of a 2-year-old boy who died after being taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police said on Sunday, Dec. 11, officers responded to E. 173rd St. to assist EMS with a toddler who was in full arrest with blunt trauma to the head. The child was taken to the hospital, and passed away today.

On Sunday, police interviewed the mother's boyfriend who was with the child at the time of the injury. The man, Terrell Dontay Willis, 25, said the boy fell and hit his head.

Police said the child had suffered multiple internal injuries along with blunt force trauma to his head.  Due to the nature and severity of the child's injuries, homicide investigators responded.

Willis was taken into custody at the hospital. At this time, he is charged with felonious assault.
