SCHILLER PARK, Ill. — A mother in Illinois is being accused of poisoning her children’s apple juice because she was mad at their father.
WGN reports Krystle El Khatib, 29, faces charges of attempted murder in the case.
Prosecutors say she crushed pills of benzodiazepine, which is an anti-anxiety drug, and mixed it into apple juice before making her 9-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter to each drink two glasses. She then drank a similar drink mixed with the drug.
The next day, her son woke up vomiting and contacted his father. He and his sister were taken to the hospital, treated and released.
El Khatib was also taken to the hospital, where she was charged after telling a social worker “she brought her kids into this world and she can take them out.”
