MUSKEGON, Mich. — A prosecutor is apologizing after he says he was never consulted on a plea deal for the owner of a daycare where a baby was found unconscious and covered in bites.

Korey Brown, 1, was found dead at the daycare back in April.

Fox 17 reports that his mother, Bryanna Reasonover, found him in a Pack ‘N Play covered in bite marks and bruises when she went to pick him up.

“It was bad,” Reasonover told Fox17. “He  was laying in there like he was asleep. When his face rolled over, he had all these bruises on the side of his face. And that’s when I said what’s wrong with my baby’s face.”

Reasonover said daycare workers didn’t know anything was wrong with her baby.

It was eventually determined that an 8-year-old girl was responsible for the baby’s death. The girl has since been admitted to a psychiatric facility.

The owner of the daycare, Keysha Collins, was originally charged with attempted child neglect and child abuse, WoodTV reports.

But as part of an August plea deal, the child abuse charge was dropped in exchange for a no contest plea to the neglect charge.

Collins was sentenced to a year probation.

But WoodTV reports that under the Crime Victims’ Rights Act, Reasonover should have been notified about the plea deal and sentencing.

“I just feel like justice was not served for Korey,” she told WoodTV.

Muskegon County Prosecutor D.J. Hilson told WoodTV he wasn’t consulted and did not authorize the plea deal, and he apologized.

“I’m taking full responsibility for it and have assured the victim’s family that I am going to personally make sure that it gets fixed,” Hilson said, saying that the deal was a mistake and that there was lack of communication between his office and Reasonover.

“Ultimately, it’s going to put this case back to what it was originally at prior to the plea on Friday,” he told WoodTV in August.
