LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A mother accused of stealing from her deployed son has been indicted by a grand jury.
According to Stark County Common Pleas Court records, Jennifer Fletcher, 42, will appear before a judge Friday on multiple felony counts of theft, grand theft and forgery.
Investigators say Fletcher stole as much as $16,000 from her son, Scott Davis, while he was fighting for his country in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Police say Davis’ wife first noticed the missing funds and contacted authorities. From there, detectives discovered that Fletcher had taken money from her son’s income tax refunds and military pay as far back as 2010.
Davis had allegedly given his mother access to his banking information so she could handle his taxes. It wasn’t until he returned from overseas that he realized his money had been spent.
Fletcher was arrested last month in Brewster, Ohio.
She was initially being held in the Stark County Jail on $150,000 bond.
