PEBBLE BEACH, California — Car lovers, feast your eyes on this beauty, a 1936 Mercedes-Benz 540-K Special Roadster.

It’s one of just a few such cars by the German automaker left from pre-war Nazi Germany.

And it sold for $11.77 million at an auction in Pebble Beach, California.

That may be steep, but it failed to reach the auction house’s expectations.

Gooding and Company had hoped it would fetch enough to break the world record set last year, when a 1957 Ferrari Testarossa went for $16.4 million.
