Mentor man arrested following crime spree

MENTOR, Ohio- Mentor police arrested a man accused of breaking into house, damaging mailboxes and trying to get into a park concession stand.

Police received reports of a white truck hitting mailboxes on Kathleen and Green Valley drives at about 2:30 a.m. on July 9. Less than an hour later, the alarm sounded at the concession stand in Morton Park. There were also break-ins at three condos on Hollycroft Drive that same night.

At about 6 a.m., officers spotted a truck with front-end damage and stopped the driver, 23-year-old Cody Simpson, for traffic violations. The Mentor Police Department said they learned during the investigation Simpson was responsible for the crime spree.

The Mentor man was arrested and charged with four counts of burglary, one count of breaking and entering, 11 counts of criminal damaging and one count of driving under suspension.

Simpson was arraigned Thursday morning in Mentor Municipal Court. His bond was set at $450,000.
