BEDFORD, Ohio — Police are investigating a crash that killed a mother and her two children Friday night.

It happened at the intersection of Northfield Road and Berwyn Street around 9:45 p.m.

According to the Bedford Police Department, 30-year-old Maria Thorpe, of Maple Heights, was driving east on Berwyn with her four children.

A 48-year-old man from Warrensville Heights was heading south on Northfield Road when he reportedly failed to stop for a red light.

He was treated at the hospital and released. He is being held by Bedford police.

Thorpe and her two children, Zariah Roberts, 8, and Zyanah Roberts, 5, died as a result of the crash. The 12-year-old passenger was treated and released, but the 10-year-old passenger is in critical condition and on a ventilator, said police.

Police say alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

As of Saturday afternoon, no charges had been filed against the male driver. Police said the prosecutor will review the case on Monday.
