NEW ORLEANS-- A Tulane University student was shot in the stomach while trying to help a woman during a robbery early Friday morning.

(Warning: The video may be disturbing to some viewers)

New Orleans police said the woman was fairly intoxicated when a man attacked her. Surveillance video shows the victim on the ground and the suspect attempting to walk her to his SUV.

That's when Peter Gold, a four-year medical student, intervenes.

The suspect points a gun at Gold and demands valuables, then fires one shot, WGNO in New Orleans reported. On the video, Gold can be seen falling to the ground as the man tries to continue shooting.

Gold was taken to an area hospital, where he is listed in guarded condition. The female victim was treated and released with minor injuries.

Tulane University is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
