CLEVELAND-  Director of Public Safety Michael McGrath confirmed to FOX 8’s Kevin Freeman that a Cleveland police cadet was terminated this afternoon.

McGrath said the cadet, Brandon Smith, 26, did not reveal he was involved in a shooting while he was an officer in East Cleveland.

It was discovered while going through Smith’s personnel file.

Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association President Steve Loomis told Kevin that Smith was a part-time officer in East Cleveland. Loomis said Smith did disclose that he was involved in a shooting; but he did not check a box on the application that asked: Have you ever been involved in a civil lawsuit? Loomis claims at the time of the application, Smith wasn’t involved in the civil lawsuit.
