QUANAH, Texas- The National Weather Service radar wasn’t showing light rain in parts of Texas on Wednesday. It was picking up bugs.

The NWS in Norman, Oklahoma said the radar images display grasshoppers and beetles at the Copper Breaks State Park In Quanah, Texas.

“If you were down there, you wouldn’t see a swarm of bugs in the air. But there’s just enough flying around to be sampled by the radar,” said forecaster Jonathan Kurtz in a YouTube video.

NWS observations program leader Forrest Mitchell said the swam covered more than 50 miles, but it’s difficult to determine how many insects were in the area.
