CLEVELAND– Some big changes are coming to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

The terminal is getting a massive makeover. The renovations are going to start this week.

“It’s going to look a lot cleaner, fresher, new color palettes in here, new lighting, things like that, to just kind of freshen this whole area and then there’s going to be some changes outside as well,” explained Airport Spokesperson Michele Dynia.

Outside, there’s going to be new windows, walkways and an overhang. That will be beneficial for people getting picked up and dropped off in bad weather.

The project was supposed to start next year, but the airport is fast tracking construction so everything is ready for the 2016 Republican National Convention.

“We’re going to be in the spotlight and we want people to have a good impression of us when they’re here in Cleveland,” said Dynia.

With all this construction, there’s sure to be a little chaos for travelers, so the airport is asking that everyone arrive extra early.

If possible, at least an hour or two before their flight.

“As we’re working in one area, an airline may move to a different area on the ticketing level or a different part of the airport altogether, so people need to know that in advance. So check out the website so you can see what’s going on and there are no surprises when you get here,” she said.
