Police: Massillon woman says husband came toward her before shooting him

MASSILLON, Ohio - A woman is facing murder charges after calling police to tell them she shot her husband, officers say.

According to the Massillon Police Department, the shooting happened around 11 p.m. Wednesday on Oak Trail Northeast after a domestic incident.

Colleen McKernan told police she shot her husband, 29-year-old Robert McKernan, when he came toward her. She also said she was performing chest compressions him.

When officers arrived, they were able to arrest Colleen McKernan without incident. They found Robert McKernan dead inside the house with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and face.

Colleen McKernan was later booked into the Stark County Jail for one count of murder.

An investigation into the shooting is underway.
