SEATTLE — A 40-year-old Spanaway man walked into the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department early Wednesday and said he had shot and killed his wife and their 11-year-old daughter.

Officers responded to the man’s residence in the 15500 block of 20th Avenee Court East and found two people dead in the bedroom.

Deputy Ed Smith said that officers, “were able to look through a window and see that there appeared to be someone in the bed not responding. At that time they forced entry into the house and in the master bedroom they found that there were two victims of what appeared to be homicidal violence.”

The victims have been identified as Kristi Holmes, 41, and Violet Holmes, 11.

The Sheriff’s Department reported that the suspect has been cooperating with investigators and told them that he was having marital and financial problems; detectives said the issues included lying to his wife about moving into a new home.

The suspect also told detectives that he had shot his wife while she was sleeping early Tuesday morning. He then said he woke up his daugther and a friend of hers who was also staying at the home.

The man then took the two girls in his car to his daughter’s friend’s home in Auburn, where he dropped off the girl and then continued to drive around with his daughter. He told detectives that he pulled the car over in Spanaway and shot his daughter while she sat in the car. He then said he drove to a nearby McDonald’s, ate, and then went home where he placed his daughter in the same bed where his wife was.

The suspect said he attempted to clean up the home for several hours and then decided to turn himself in to authorities.

He has been booked into Pierce County Jail on two counts of first-degree murder. He is expected to be in court Thursday.
