BRIMFIELD, OH — An Akron man was caught red handed after stealing more than $1,000 in merchandise from a Brimfield Walmart.

According to Brimfield police, the man loaded up more than $1,100 worth of items into a cart and walked towards the doors. He was spotted by employees and began sprinting towards his vehicle.

Brimfield police say a retired Summit County Sheriff’s Office captain spotted the man in the parking lot and “sarcastically” asked him if he “needed some help lifting the heavy stuff.”

The suspect jumped in his car and fled the parking lot.

Brimfield officers caught up with the man as he was preparing to get on I-76. He was arrested and charged with felony theft and driving with a suspended license.
