CLEVELAND, Ohio — A man shot last week while trying to stop his friend from driving drunk has died from his injuries, according to Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center.
Java Bowling III, 43, was shot in the chest Aug. 3 around 7:30 p.m. on Roanoke Avenue. Police said he was attempting to take the suspect’s keys in order to prevent him from driving while intoxicated.
The suspect, Scott Campbell Sr., 40, fought Bowling and shot him in the chest before fleeing the scene.
Police were able to locate the weapon and later arrested the suspect.
He’s charged with felonious assault, weapons under disability, tampering with evidence and possession of criminal tools.
