CLEVELAND -- Cleveland police are asking for help identifying the driver in a hit-and-run accident.
Joseph Mays Jr., 59, is being kept heavily sedated as he recovers at MetroHealth Medical Center. The Cleveland man had just gotten off the bus at W. 90th Street and Lorain Avenue and was hit by a car as he was crossing the street around 8:40 p.m. Thursday night.
Deshawn Hall was walking home at the time and saw what happened to the person he knows as 'Joe.'
"And, as soon as the bus passed, Joe hopped off there and a car came doing like 50 or 60 mph. He went into the air and fell here in front of this yellow sign," he said.
While the driver of the car never stopped, another motorist did what she could do to help Mays.
"Someone told me there was a lady who took her van and blocked him so he wouldn't get hit by another car," his sister Rose Mays said.
At this time, police don't know what type of vehicle hit Mays, but it is believed to be a 4-door car. Anyone with information is asked to call Cleveland police.
