CLEVELAND- A Cleveland man accused of raping three women after luring them into his car was arrested Thursday morning.
Van Patterson, 43, was taken into custody at his home. He faces a 13-count indictment on charges of rape, kidnapping and gross sexual imposition.
The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office said Patterson offered the women a ride while they were walking on Cleveland’s east side. The assaults happened in 1995, 1997 and 2009.
When the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation tested rape kits, they connected Patterson to the crimes through DNA.
Patterson, who goes by the street name “Apples,” was previously convicted for sexual battery. Court officials said an investigator saw him in a photo from the Valentine’s Day weddings at Tower City on Cleveland.com, which helped lead to his arrest.
