Man killed in Hudson officer-involved shooting was citizen of United Arab Emirates

HUDSON, Ohio-- The name of the man shot and killed by a Hudson officer on Sunday has been released.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as 26-year-old Saif Nasser Mubarak Alameri, of Cleveland. He died of a gunshot wound to the head.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation said Alameri was a citizen of the United Arab Emirates and was a student at Case Western Reserve University. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, and the UAE Embassy in Washington, D.C., are following the investigation.

"In light of this follow-up, and after details of the painful incident are clarified by the authorities, the Ministry will issue a more comprehensive statement at a later time," said Mohammed Mer Al Raisi, Under-Secretary at the Ministry, in a statement on Tuesday.

It all began Sunday afternoon with reports of a an erratic driver on the Ohio Turnpike. Investigators said the driver side-swiped another car and flipped his own vehicle before running away.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Hudson Police Department searched for the suspect and eventually located him in a wooded area off of Hudson Aurora Road.

According to the city of Hudson, there was a struggle between a Hudson officer and the suspect. Shots were fired.

The officer was treated for minor injuries. BCI said it is still investigating if Alameri had a weapon.
