MEDINA, Ohio- A Columbia Station man was sentenced for a crash that severely injured a North Olmsted police officer last year.
Dalton Phillips, then 23, was driving on Station Road in Liverpool Township in March. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said his truck went off the road at a curve and he over-corrected, hitting Officer Jack Justice’s car head-on.
Phillips pleaded no contest to aggravated vehicular assault and failure to stop. On Monday, he received four years in prison and a lifetime driving ban for the hit-and-run crash.
Justice suffered a significant brain injury and was on a ventilator for 25 days. His wife, Emily Justice, said the sentencing will finally help put an end to her family’s nightmare.
Justice is a 15-year veteran of the North Olmsted Police Department and father of four.
